Al-Isra Wal-Me'raj are the two parts of the miraculous Night Journey that Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.W took in one single night ( Al-Isra is one and Al-Me'raj is the second ).This event has been mentioned in Quran in Surah Al-Isra and An-Najam in brief but descriptive in Ahadith. In this journey Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.W Travelled on Buraq from Al-Makka to Jerusalem where he led other Prophets in prayer then HE ascend to the Heaven. In this journey Allah S.W.T spoke to Muhammad S.A.W directly and prescribe him the five daily prayers.
Al-Isra means Travelling at night and Al-Me'raj means ascending.Isra is the journey of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W from Al-Makkah to Bayt al-Maqdas ( Jerusalem ) and Me'raj is the journey from Jerusalem to the heavens.
5 daily prayers were prescribed on this Ummah on Al-Isra Wal-Me'raj.Allah S.W.T spoke directly to Muhammad S.A.W and gave him instruction of prayers. There's no other Ibadah ( worshiping ) given by Allah S.W.T directly to the Prophet S.A.W except Salah ( Namaz ).Everything was revealed to Prophet Muhammad S.A.W through Jibrail A.S but only Salah ( Prayer ) was revealed by Allah S.W.T directly and this shows the importance of Salah.
Surah Al-Isra , Ayat no. 1 is talking about the event of Al-Isra Wal-Meraj |

Some Ahadith related to Al-Me'raj :
Narrated Abu Huraira: On the night Allah's Apostle was taken on a night journey (Miraj) two cups, one containing wine and the other milk, were presented to him at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the cup of milk. Gabriel said, "Praise be to Allah Who guided you to Al-Fitra (the right path); if you had taken (the cup of) wine, your nation would have gone astray." ( Rawah al-Bukhari )
Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: That he heard Allah's Apostle saying, "When the people of Quraish did not believe me (i.e. the story of my Night Journey), I stood up in Al-Hijr and Allah displayed Jerusalem in front of me, and I began describing it to them while I was looking at it." ( Al-Bukhari , Volume 5, Book 58, Number 226 )
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding the Statement of Allah - "And We granted the vision (Ascension to the heavens) which We made you see (as an actual eye witness) was only made as a trial for the people." (17.60) - The sights which Allah's Apostle was shown on the Night Journey when he was taken to Bait-ul-Maqdis (i.e. Jerusalem) were actual sights, (not dreams). And the Cursed Tree (mentioned) in the Quran is the tree of Zaqqum (itself). ( Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 58, Number 228 )
