Assalam O Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu !
Allah S.W.T created human beings and Jinns ( Ins-o-Jinn ) to worship him and time by time Allah S.W.T sent Prophets and Messengers to remind the people about reason of their existence because Shaitan ( Satan ) always tries to mislead human being from being worshiping Allah to commits Shirk ( worshiping other than Allah ).The one who worshiped ALLAH and pleased him will go to Paradise and the one whom worshiped other than Allah will surely go to Hell fire.
Allah S.W.T sent more than 1 Lac Prophets to call mankind towards himself.Prophet Muhammad ( Peace Be Upon Him ) was the last of the Prophets and seal of the Prophets, No Prophet will be sent by Allah S.W.T.After the prophet hood of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W anyone who wants to please Allah have to follow Muhammad S.A.W and his way.The one whom follows Muhammad S.A.W are called Muslims. One who have Imaan ( faith ) in his heart equivalent to a mustard seed will go to Paradise ( after getting punishment of any bad deed he/she have committed ).Followers of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W are called Muslims and they will go to Jannah because they followed the last Messenger of ALLAH.They will also have to went through the punishment of their bad deeds because Jannah/Paradise is free from sins.
There is a certain category of Muslims whom must have to go through the punishment of hell fire and they are the ones whom committed bad deeds.Obviously they will be granted Jannah after getting Punishment because they believed in Allah , His Messenger , Angels and The Day of Judgement. We come to know from Ahadith about some certain sins which will surely cause a person to go to Hell fire but if Allah wants to forgive then He is Almighty Forgiving. These sins will cause them to enter hell fire and when they receive their punishment they will be granted Jannah. These Sins are mentioned in the ahadith below.
